Law No. 8 year 1971 appointed PERTAMINA as the only State Owned Enterprise(BUMN) to perform oil and gas undertakings. PERTAMINA was the only BUMN established by law and responsible for the success of oil and gas operations. |

In 1971 PERTAMINA-Mobil Oil Indonesia discovered a huge oil reserve in Arun, Aceh and a similar discovery was made by PERTAMINA-Huffco in Badak, East Kalimantan.
