Long time ago mankind has already drilled holes in the ground. With this kind of percussion drill in 500 BC, Chinese people used this to drill in order to obtain water.
In the 19th and 20th century this device was also used to drill oil wells.
By using these drill bits to make holes to enable oil and gas to flow from the reservoirs to the surface, rocks below the surface can be crushed, however hard they are.
Because oil and gas are not only found on land but also beneath the sea, which could not be drilled from the land, an offshore platform should be built as a means to drill and to produce oil and gas even though with a relatively higher cost and risk.
